The Company: At AviadoBio our mission is to transform the lives of people living with neurodegenerative disorders by developing and delivering transformative gene therapies for diseases including frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The company's technology is based on pioneering research of Professor Christopher Shaw, Professor of Neurology and Neurogenetics, Kings College London, with the support of UK Dementia Research Institute. With support from leading life science investors, our experienced and talented team is poised to make a meaningful impact on people living with neurodegenerative disease.
This summer, join our drug discovery team and gain real industry experience working on gene therapy programmes with the potential to change patients' lives. You'll be embedded in the Discovery department, working alongside scientists on active research projects and picking up a broad range of laboratory and analytical skills along the way. This is a handsâon role â you'll be in the lab from day one, contributing to meaningful experiments rather than watching from the sideâlines.
What youâll be doing:
- Lab work: Get handsâon with mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, and transfection experiments.
- RNA analysis: Extract RNA and use digital PCR to measure gene knockdown and miRNA expression.
- Next-Gen Sequencing: Prepare samples for small RNA sequencing and explore what the data reveals.
- Data and presentation: Analyse your results and present your findings to the team. Your work will genuinely inform ongoing research.
- Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across Discovery and other departments and get a real feel for how a biotech operates.
Additional Information
- Location: Our London office and lab at Canary Wharf
- Duration: A fullâtime 3âmonth paid Internship
- Start Date: MidâJune to early July 2026
- Currently studying towards a degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical science, or a related field.
- Practical laboratory experience is essential. You should be comfortable with basic techniques such as pipetting, preparing solutions, and working safely at the bench. Experience with cell culture or molecular biology methods (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis) is a plus.
- Curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in gene therapy or rare disease research.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn.
