Key Responsibilities:
- Implement, commission, and maintain AVEVA Process Optimization (APO) Real-Time Optimization (RTO) Closed Loop applications for ethylene/steam cracker plants.
- Develop, validate, and maintain rigorous process models of ethylene cracker complexes, including cracking furnaces, transfer line exchangers, quench systems, compression trains, acid gas removal, drying, cold section, refrigeration systems, and product separation/fractionation.
- Apply strong ethylene cracker process knowledge to represent feedstock effects, furnace severity, coil outlet temperature, steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio, yields, energy consumption, equipment constraints, and operating economics.
- Configure and troubleshoot online model execution, including plant data acquisition, data validation/reconciliation, model parameter estimation, model-to-plant matching, optimization, and automated execution sequences.
- Develop and maintain economic optimization cases considering feed costs, product values, utilities, energy efficiency, furnace constraints, compressor limitations, equipment capacities, product specifications, and plant operating constraints.
- Implement and commission Closed Loop RTO, integrating APO with plant APC/DCS systems to automatically transfer optimized operating targets and setpoints while maintaining appropriate operating and safety constraints.
- Work closely with Operations, Process Engineering, APC, Planning and Optimization teams to identify optimization opportunities and translate them into sustainable closed-loop strategies.
- Analyze RTO solutions and identify the active constraints, economic drivers and operational trade-offs responsible for recommended operating changes.
- Perform RTO performance monitoring and benefit tracking, including application availability, model accuracy, optimization effectiveness, closed-loop utilization, constraint activity, and realized economic benefits.
- Diagnose and resolve issues affecting RTO performance, including model mismatch, instrumentation problems, data quality, APC limitations, equipment changes, feedstock changes and changing operating modes.
- Support site commissioning, performance testing, operator/engineer training and handover of RTO Closed Loop applications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other RTO engineers, particularly in ethylene cracker modelling, optimization and Closed Loop implementation.
Preferred Technical Background:
- Chemical Engineering or equivalent process engineering degree.
- Strong experience in ethylene/steam cracker process engineering, simulation or optimization.
- Hands-on experience with AVEVA Process Optimization (APO/ROMeo) or equivalent rigorous RTO technology.
- Experience with rigorous steady-state process simulation, data reconciliation, parameter estimation and nonlinear optimization.
- Understanding of APC/RTO integration and Closed Loop optimization architectures.
- Experience with plant historians and industrial data infrastructure such as AVEVA PI System is desirable.
- Ability to work directly with refinery/petrochemical Operations and Engineering teams during implementation and commissioning.
