We are looking for a Mathematical Developer with experience in numerical modelling or mathematical software development to join our Unified Supply Chain (USC) team. At AVEVA we help our users to make better decisions in Supply Chain operations. Our tools optimise the use of natural resources, allow efficient collaboration, and maximise equipment utilisation. This is a role on our foundational USC Assay product, designed specifically for the oil, gas, and refining industries to manage and analyse crude oil assay data. The team have responsibility for the maintenance of our flagship Assay Engine, used for predictive modelling and blending. The position is ideal for someone who will enjoy a mix of software development of an established desktop application, interlaced with supporting our mathematical modelling code.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute directly to the maintenance and improvement of numerical models and their associated code.
- Investigate mathematical, algorithmic and software engineering problems and see them through to resolution.
- Take ownership of large or technically challenging work items, breaking them down into manageable tasks and making sound implementation decisions.
- Work effectively within an existing, and in some areas legacy codebase, balancing respect for established team practices with thoughtful technical improvement.
- Demonstrate the potential to lead technical projects.
- Provide guidance, coaching and technical mentoring to less experienced developers where appropriate.
Essential requirements
- Strong mathematical background.
- Programming ability in at least one relevant language (e.g. C/C++, C#).
- Experience of numerical modelling or mathematical software development.
- Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
Desired skills and competencies
- Experience of debugging tools.
- Experience with source control systems and continuous integration/continuous development i.e. git and Azure DevOps.
- Postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD or equivalent experience) is an advantage.
