We’re working with a highly technical engineering and technology consultancy specialising in the design and development of advanced RF, communications, sensing and radar systems. With deep expertise across antenna design, high-frequency electronics, digital signal processing and embedded systems, the business develops innovative, low-size, weight, power and cost solutions for complex technology challenges. Its work spans multiple markets including industrial, automotive, healthcare, utilities, security, communications and space, with a strong heritage in defence and an exciting opportunity to expand further into commercial markets outside of defence.

They are now looking for an experienced Business Development Lead to take ownership of developing new markets, building customer relationships and generating significant new commercial opportunities.

This is a specialist new-business and consultative sales role, combining commercial strategy with enough technical understanding to identify where advanced RF and sensing technologies can solve customer challenges.

You will:

  • Develop and manage a high-value sales pipeline across RF, communications, sensing and radar
  • Identify and win new business opportunities within commercial markets
  • Develop relationships with senior technical, commercial and engineering stakeholders
  • Identify customer challenges and translate complex technology into compelling commercial value propositions
  • Work closely with internal engineering teams to shape solutions around customer requirements
  • Support the development of technical proposals, bids and commercial programmes
  • Lead customer meetings, presentations, negotiations and the sales process through to close
  • Research market trends, competitor activity and emerging technologies to identify new opportunities
  • Build long-term relationships and develop a strong network across relevant industries
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences and trade shows
  • Own forecasting, pipeline management and reporting against revenue targets

What we're looking for:

  • 8+ years' professional experience, with at least 5 years in Business Development / technical sales
  • Proven track record of new-business development and consultative selling, ideally within an engineering or technology consultancy
  • Strong understanding of RF systems, antennas, microwave, signal processing, wireless communications, sensing, radar, embedded systems or related engineering solutions
  • A demonstrable track record of generating and closing £1m+ of new business/orders per year, for the last 3 years at least
  • Experience selling complex B2B engineering, R&D or consultancy services, rather than purely transactional products
  • Strong understanding of how to identify and commercialise new technologies and products
  • Ability to understand a customer's technical, strategic and commercial challenges and turn them into opportunities
  • Comfortable working with technical engineering teams to develop bespoke customer solutions
  • Strong presentation, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
  • A genuine hunter mentality, with a passion for opening new accounts, developing new markets and building a significant pipeline
  • Degree qualified, ideally in Engineering, Physics or another relevant technical discipline

This is an opportunity to join a technically differentiated business where you can have a direct impact on commercial growth. You’ll have the freedom to identify new markets and customers across RF, communications, sensing and radar, while working alongside highly experienced engineering teams to take complex technologies and turn them into commercial solutions. If you have a background selling RF, radar, sensing, communications or specialist engineering consultancy and have a proven track record of winning significant new business, I'd be keen to speak with you.
