As a Commis Chef, your primary role is to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. You will work in different areas of the kitchen, such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces, usually on a six‑month rotation programme. Support all chefs to manage and deliver catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained. Participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents’ special needs or dietary requirements, including cultural and religious preferences. Prepare nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the chefs, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes. Prepare special diet meals as needed and as directed by the chefs.
About You
- Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent.
- Hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Have a minimum of one year of catering experience.
- Demonstrate compassion and commitment to delivering high‑quality culinary services to residents.
- Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities on short notice.
