Our client is a leading international integrated energy company with a global portfolio of offshore deepwater projects. The Basingstoke engineering office is one of the company's key project execution hubs, housing a dedicated Subsea Systems department responsible for delivering complex EPCI contracts across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility through detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning — on projects worldwide. The client operates a hybrid working policy: up to 12 working days per month from home are available, enabling approximately 60% remote working.
Project scope: The assignment is based within the client's Basingstoke Subsea Systems department, providing senior technical expertise in Subsea Control Systems across multiple international deepwater EPCI projects. The Senior Engineer covers all engineering phases — from conceptual study and FEED through procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning — and acts as the client's Company Representative for all Subsea Control Systems activities on assigned projects. The role requires direct engagement with contractors and vendors, offshore and onshore testing support, and close collaboration with other disciplines within the Subsea Systems department.
Role overview: To provide senior technical leadership for Subsea Control Systems across the full EPCI project lifecycle — from conceptual study through commissioning and handover to operations — ensuring designs meet project requirements, applicable codes and standards, and engineering best practices, while acting as the client's Company Representative on all Subsea Control Systems matters.
Reporting line: You will report to the Chief of Subsea Systems and work in daily coordination with the wider Subsea Systems department, interface disciplines, and contractors and vendors throughout all project phases.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and complete technical documentation for Subsea Control Systems across all project phases: data sheets, functional specifications, preliminary electrical and hydraulic analyses, conceptual study, FEED, tender and contract package preparation.
- Ensure Subsea Control Systems designs meet project requirements, applicable codes and standards, and engineering best practices — with a focus on cost and risk reduction.
- Prepare and complete large EPCI contracts for Subsea Control Systems across all project phases: feasibility and conceptual study, FEED, call for tender, engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning.
- Maintain extensive awareness of international design standards for Subsea Control Systems, in particular API 17F.
- Correctly apply company internal standards and HSEQ policies throughout all activities.
- Follow up supplier calls for tender and selection processes: qualifications, clarifications, and technical recommendations.
- Review and approve FEED, tender, and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by contractors.
- Supervise contractors and vendors across equipment delivery and engineering deliverables.
- Act as Company Representative for all activities related to Subsea Control Systems.
- Support projects during onshore and offshore testing: Control System FAT, EFAT, integration with DCS/ICCS.
- Provide offshore assistance during Control System pre-commissioning activities on board installation vessels, FPSOs, or platforms.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Subsea Systems department and across interface disciplines throughout all project phases.
- Support Design and Safety Reviews, HAZOP, HAZID, and Risk Assessment processes.
- Contribute to Umbilical System and Subsea Chemical Injection System design and operation activities.
- Subsea Control Systems technical documentation delivered on schedule and to the required quality standard across all assigned project phases.
- Contractor and FEED deliverables reviewed and approved within defined timescales.
- EPCI contract packages prepared accurately and in full compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- FAT, EFAT, and commissioning support provided on time and in accordance with project schedules.
- Company Representative duties performed rigorously across all assigned Subsea Control Systems activities.
Requirements:
Education: Minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Experience:
- Must-have: Extensive experience as a Subsea Control Systems Engineer across the full project development lifecycle — from concept development through execution and handover to operations.
- Experience in the technical design of Subsea Control Systems from preliminary engineering through detailed design.
- Experience in Umbilical System and Subsea Chemical Injection System design and operation.
- Experience supervising contractors and vendors across equipment and engineering deliverables.
- Experience supporting onshore and offshore project testing: Control System FAT, EFAT, integration with DCS/ICCS.
- Experience with offshore assistance during Control System pre-commissioning activities on board installation vessels and/or FPSOs or platforms.
- Experience in Design and Safety Reviews — HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessment.
- Nice-to-have: Extensive experience in Subsea Control System design, testing, and commissioning during project execution — considered a major advantage.
- Familiarity with the relevant international codes and subsea standards for Subsea Control Systems, in particular API 17F.

- Deep knowledge of Subsea Control Systems design across all EPCI project phases.
- Proficient with MS Office; basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Understanding of electrical and hydraulic analysis applicable to subsea control systems.
- Knowledge of HSE and technical risk integration into engineering and project solutions.
