Our client is a leading international integrated energy company with a strong global project engineering capability, currently driving an ambitious energy transition programme spanning CCS/CCUS, renewables, and hydrogen alongside its traditional oil and gas portfolio. The Basingstoke engineering office is a fully integrated project execution hub delivering multi-discipline engineering across all phases of complex projects worldwide, with a dedicated Subsea Systems department at its core.
The assignment is based within the client's Basingstoke Subsea Systems department, providing Flow Assurance technical leadership across multiple concurrent international oil and gas projects — from feasibility and concept development through FEED, detailed engineering, and handover to operations. The role also extends to CCUS projects, covering CO₂ transportation system assessment and thermo-hydraulic studies specific to CO₂ transport.
The Senior Engineer will operate as both a technical lead and a Discipline Project Lead (PDL), accountable for Flow Assurance deliverables across assigned projects and responsible for mentoring junior engineers within the discipline. The client operates a hybrid working policy: up to 12 working days per month from home are available, enabling approximately 60% remote working.
Role overview
To provide senior Flow Assurance technical leadership across the full project lifecycle — from conceptual studies through FEED, tendering, detailed engineering, and operations support — ensuring technical rigour, cross-discipline integration, and compliance with applicable standards across the client's international oil and gas and CCUS projects.
Reporting line: You will report to the Flow Assurance Coordinator and the Chief of Subsea Systems, and work in daily coordination with discipline engineers, interface disciplines (Pipelines/Subsea, Process/Facilities, Operations), contractors, and reservoir and laboratory teams.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare all Flow Assurance technical documentation across project phases: conceptual study, FEED, tendering, contract package preparation, detailed engineering, and operations.
- Review and approve FEED, tender, and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by contractors for the Flow Assurance discipline.
- Identify, define, and analyse complex multiphase hydrocarbon transportation schemes.
- Assess COâ‚‚ transportation systems, evaluate operating envelopes, and support thermo-hydraulic studies for CCUS projects.
- Provide technical support to interface disciplines — Pipelines/Subsea, Process/Facilities, Operations — ensuring integrated solutions across all project phases.
- Support operations and troubleshoot start-up and commissioning issues as required.
- Support the Flow Assurance Coordinator and Chief of Subsea Systems in preparing manhour estimates for new proposals.
- Liaise with engineering disciplines throughout the project execution phase; coordinate and manage cross-discipline interfaces.
- Ensure awareness of and compliance with international standards and codes applicable to Flow Assurance.
- Advise on correct interpretation and application of company internal standards and HSEQ policies; develop new standards as required.
- Mentor engineers within the Flow Assurance team; contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the discipline.
- Support technical and safety reviews: HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments, design and safety reviews.
- Ensure Flow Assurance technical documentation is delivered on schedule and to the required quality standard across all assigned project phases.
- Contractor and FEED deliverables reviewed and approved within defined timescales.
- Manhour estimates and variation forecasts provided accurately and proactively.
- PDL functions performed rigorously across assigned complex projects.
- Junior engineers mentored with structured guidance and discipline knowledge transfer.
Requirements
Education: Degree in Engineering with graduate-level knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics — petroleum, chemical, mechanical, or related discipline.
Experience: Must-have: Extensive experience as a Flow Assurance Engineer across the full project development lifecycle — from concept development through FEED, detailed engineering, and handover to operations. Proven capability in identifying, defining, and analysing complex multiphase hydrocarbon transportation schemes. Experience performing technical review of Flow Assurance documentation produced by team members and contractors. Experience with Technical Audit and Design.
