About the client

Our client is a leading international integrated energy company with a global portfolio of offshore deepwater projects. The engineering office is a fully integrated project execution hub housing a dedicated Materials & Corrosion discipline team, currently engaged in supporting a competitive FEED for a major SURF project with multiple APAC-based contractors.

Project scope

The assignment is based within the client's Basingstoke Materials & Corrosion team, supporting the review of SURF deliverables from multiple contractors as part of a competitive FEED. The Senior Engineer works with the Material and Corrosion Discipline Project Lead across material selection, welding, coating, insulation, and corrosion control topics - interfacing with Pipelines, Subsea, and Offshore Structures disciplines, and managing comments through the client's document management system.

The client operates a hybrid working policy: up to 12 working days per month from home are available, enabling approximately 60% remote working.

Role overview

To provide senior Materials & Corrosion technical expertise in support of SURF FEED deliverable reviews - working with the Materials & Corrosion PDL to assess contractor submissions across material selection, welding and NDT, coatings, insulation, and chemical selection, while managing discipline activities and progress reporting throughout the FEED phase.

Reporting line: You will report to the Materials & Corrosion PDL and work in daily coordination with the Pipelines, Subsea, and Offshore Structures discipline teams and with multiple APAC-area contractors throughout the competitive FEED.

Key responsibilities

  • Discipline project management
  • Plan Materials & Corrosion discipline activities and manage the review of contractor deliverables in line with the FEED schedule
  • Record and manage technical comments within the client's document management system
  • Provide periodical reporting of discipline progress to the Materials & Corrosion PDL

Technical review - SURF deliverables

  • Support the review of SURF contractor deliverables in the following areas, working with the Pipelines, Subsea, and Offshore Structures discipline teams:
  • Material selection - subsea and SURF systems (SPS, umbilicals, risers, flowlines)
  • Welding and NDT - procedures, qualifications, and inspection requirements
  • Painting and coating - anticorrosion systems selection and specification
  • Insulation systems - specification and performance requirements
  • Chemical selection - corrosion inhibitors and associated treatment strategies

Technical bid evaluation

Provide input into the Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) for contractor proposals across Materials & Corrosion scope.

Key deliverables

  • Contractor SURF deliverables reviewed accurately and on schedule across all Materials & Corrosion topics
  • Technical comments recorded and managed to resolution in coordination with the Materials & Corrosion PDL
  • TBE inputs provided accurately and on time
  • Discipline progress reports delivered consistently to the Materials & Corrosion PDL throughout the FEED phase

Requirements

Education

Degree in Materials Science, Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

Must-have:

  • Senior-level experience in Materials & Corrosion engineering on offshore oil and gas projects
  • Direct experience with Materials & Corrosion requirements for a SURF FEED - including deliverable review and contractor interface
  • Deep knowledge in at least one of the following areas, and general knowledge in the others:
  • Corrosion mechanisms - H2S, CO2, halides, O2, and associated damage modes
  • Subsea material selection and corrosion control for SPS and SURF applications
  • Cathodic protection design
  • Welding and NDT - procedures, qualifications, inspection requirements
  • Anticorrosion coatings and insulation systems
  • Familiarity with applicable international standards: DNV, API, ISO, NORSOK, EEMUA, ASME, ASTM
  • Nice-to-have:

    • Experience interfacing with multiple contractors from the APAC region on FEED or detailed design projects
    • Knowledge of the client's working practices, standards, and software tools - ECE, ASSAI document management, or equivalent

    Soft skills

    • Structured and rigorous approach to deliverable review and comment management
    • Effective collaborator across multiple disciplines and contractor teams in a competitive FEED environment
    • Clear and concise technical communicator - written and verbal
    • Fluent English - mandatory
