Our client is a leading international integrated energy company with a global portfolio of offshore deepwater projects. The Basingstoke engineering office is a fully integrated project execution hub housing a dedicated Subsea Systems department responsible for delivering complex EPCI contracts across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility through detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning — on projects worldwide.

Project scope: The assignment is based within the client's Basingstoke Subsea Systems department, providing senior technical expertise in subsea structure and tie‑in systems across multiple international deepwater EPCI projects. The Senior Engineer covers all engineering phases — from conceptual study and FEED through procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning — and acts as the client's Company Representative for all subsea structure and tie‑in activities, both onshore and offshore. The role requires direct engagement with contractors and vendors, support during fabrication yard activities and offshore operations, and close collaboration with other disciplines within the Subsea Systems department. The client operates a hybrid working policy: up to 12 working days per month from home are available, enabling approximately 60% remote working.

Role overview: To provide senior technical leadership for subsea structure and tie‑in systems across the full EPCI project lifecycle — from conceptual study through commissioning and handover to operations — ensuring designs meet project requirements, applicable codes and standards, and engineering best practices, while acting as the client's Company Representative for all subsea structure and tie‑in activities onshore and offshore.

Reporting line: You will report to the Chief of Subsea Systems and work in daily coordination with the wider Subsea Systems department, interface disciplines, and contractors and vendors throughout all project phases.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare all technical documentation for subsea structure and tie‑in systems across all project phases: conceptual study, FEED, tender and contract package preparation.
  • Ensure designs of subsea structure and tie‑in systems meet project requirements, applicable codes and standards, and engineering best practices — with a focus on cost and risk reduction.
  • Prepare and complete large EPCI contracts for subsea structure and tie‑in systems across all project phases: feasibility and conceptual study, FEED, call for tender, engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Maintain extensive awareness of design standards requirements for subsea structure and tie‑in systems and all applicable international codes.
  • Correctly apply company internal standards and HSEQ policies throughout all activities.
  • Follow up supplier calls for tender and selection processes: qualifications, clarifications, and technical recommendations.
  • Review and approve FEED, tender, and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by contractors.
  • Supervise contractors and vendors across equipment delivery and engineering deliverables.
  • Act as Company Representative for all subsea structure and tie‑in activities during fabrication, testing, interfacing with other systems, packing, and load‑out.
  • Act as Company Representative for all subsea structure and tie‑in activities during offshore operations: installation support, commissioning, and start‑up.
  • Support projects during onshore and offshore testing: FAT, SIT, and pre‑commissioning, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Subsea Systems department and across interface disciplines throughout all project phases.
  • Support Design and Safety Reviews — HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessment.
  • Maintain knowledge of main subsea and installation interfaces relevant to structure and tie‑in systems.
  • Subsea structure and tie‑in technical documentation delivered on schedule and to the required quality standard across all assigned project phases.
  • Contractor and FEED deliverables reviewed and approved within defined timescales.
  • EPCI contract packages prepared accurately and in full compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
  • FAT, SIT, and commissioning support provided on time and in accordance with project schedules.
  • Company Representative duties performed rigorously across all assigned fabrication, offshore, and commissioning activities.

Requirements:

Education: Minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Must-have: Extensive experience as a Subsea Structure and Tie‑in Engineer across the full project development lifecycle — from concept development through execution and handover to operations.
  • Experience in the technical design of subsea structures: Manifolds/PLEMs, PLETs/ILTs, PLRs, and tie‑in systems — from preliminary engineering through detailed design.
  • Knowledge of main subsea and installation interfaces relevant to structure and tie‑in systems.
  • Experience as Company Representative for subsea structures and tie‑in systems.
  • Experience supervising contractors and vendors across equipment and engineering deliverables.
  • Experience supporting onshore and offshore project testing: FAT, SIT, pre‑commissioning, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Experience in Design and Safety Reviews — HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessment.
  • Nice-to-have: Extensive experience in Oil and Gas subsea structures and tie‑in systems from preliminary through detailed design — considered a strong advantage.

Technical skills:

  • Full knowledge of applicable codes, international standards, and engineering best practices for subsea structures and tie‑in systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Finite Element Analysis software: Ansys, Abaqus, COSMOSWorks.
  • Knowledge and experience with subsea structural analysis software: SACS, SESAM.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Understanding of HSE and technical risk integration into engineering and project solutions.
  • Strong technical authority — able to act as Company Representative independently across fabrication yards and offshore environments.
  • Effective collaborator across disciplines and multicultural project environments.
  • Rigorous and structured approach to documentation and standards compliance.
