Avencia are partnered with a leading global insurer who are looking to hire a Trade Credit Underwriter to join their team in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly regarded and well-established underwriting team with ambitious growth plans across the UK and international markets. The role offers a blend of both risk and commercial underwriting, with exposure to a broad portfolio of corporate and banking clients across multiple territories and sectors. The business is particularly keen to attract well-rounded underwriters with strong credit analysis and risk assessment capabilities, alongside the commercial mindset needed to help develop broker and client relationships. Key responsibilities

  • Underwriting new and existing Trade Credit risks across a diverse portfolio
  • Supporting the growth and development of broker and client relationships
  • Conducting detailed financial and credit analysis on submissions
  • Assessing trade and export finance risks, including single risk and whole turnover business
  • Preparing and presenting underwriting submissions for peer review
  • Negotiating policy terms and conditions
  • Supporting portfolio management, retention and profitability targets
  • Working closely with senior underwriters and business development teams on strategic growth initiatives
  • Engaging directly with brokers, banks and insureds across the market

Skills and experience

  • Experience within Trade Credit, Political Risk, Surety, Banking or a related financial risk environment
  • Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills
  • Understanding of risk underwriting principles across different sectors and territories
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to build strong market relationships
  • Exposure to trade finance, export finance or structured credit risks would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of country risk and insolvency considerations is beneficial
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Interest in innovation and the use of technology/AI within underwriting
