A leading London Market Marine business is seeking a commercially minded insurance professional to join its Hull & War team in a unique role combining underwriting responsibility with portfolio management and strategic influence. Working closely with senior leadership, you'll help shape underwriting strategy, analyse portfolio performance and identify opportunities for profitable growth, while continuing to build market relationships and contribute to the management of an established international portfolio.
In addition to Hull & War Underwriters, we are equally interested in speaking with individuals from adjacent disciplines who bring strong analytical capability and a genuine interest in underwriting. This could include professionals from actuarial, catastrophe modelling, exposure management, reinsurance or portfolio management backgrounds who are looking to move closer to underwriting decision-making and broader business leadership.
The Role
- Underwrite Hull & War risks in line with agreed appetite and authority.
- Support portfolio strategy, annual planning and performance reviews.
- Monitor KPIs, analyse trends and provide insight to improve results.
- Identify profitable growth opportunities and support new business initiatives.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, finance and portfolio stakeholders.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills & Experience
- Experience within Hull & War, Marine or a closely related specialty insurance discipline.
- Strong commercial judgement coupled with an analytical mindset.
- Exposure to underwriting, portfolio management, pricing, actuarial, catastrophe modelling, reinsurance or other data-driven environments.
- Ability to interpret data, identify trends and translate insights into commercial actions.
- Experience contributing to business planning, portfolio reviews or strategic initiatives.
- Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build credibility with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across underwriting, actuarial, claims, finance and portfolio teams.
- Experience supporting, mentoring or developing junior colleagues would be advantageous.
- An interest in combining underwriting expertise with broader portfolio and business responsibilities.
