Want to build your insurance career in a role where you can develop new skills, work alongside experienced Underwriters and play an important part in keeping the business moving? Avencia are working with a growing insurance business to recruit Underwriting Support Assistants to join a Leeds-based underwriting support team. You don't need previous underwriting experience. Whether your background is in insurance, claims, banking, financial services, customer service, administration or operations, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
The Role
You'll provide operational and entry-level underwriting support across a range of specialist insurance classes, working closely with Underwriters, Brokers, Claims, Finance and other areas of the business. The team plays an important role in helping Underwriters manage their workload, keep new business and renewals moving and deliver a high level of service to brokers and customers.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting Underwriters with a variety of operational and administrative tasks
- Processing and maintaining accurate insurance information
- Preparing and issuing policy documentation
- Creating and amending insurance quotes
- Managing tasks and workflows through Dynamics 365
- Requesting, reviewing and tracking survey reports
- Managing diaries and following up outstanding actions
- Responding to broker and internal enquiries via phone and email
- Reviewing information and identifying missing or incomplete details
- Supporting renewal activity and helping Underwriters manage their pipelines
- Working closely with Underwriting, Claims, Finance and other internal teams
You'll start by learning the core processes and systems before building your knowledge across both new business and renewals.
What We're Looking For:
We're more interested in your attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn than whether you've worked in underwriting before. We're looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work
- Is highly organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills
- Is confident using technology and learning new systems
- Takes ownership and sees tasks through to completion
- Is proactive and willing to ask questions
- Can identify problems and flag issues early
- Enjoys delivering a good service to customers and brokers
- Works well as part of a collaborative team
- Is flexible when priorities change
- Is curious and open to feedback and learning
Insurance experience would be beneficial, particularly in underwriting support, broking, claims or insurance operations, but it isn't essential.
What You'll Gain:
This role gives you the opportunity to build a strong foundation in insurance while gaining exposure to the wider underwriting process. You'll have the opportunity to:
- Develop your understanding of how underwriting works
- Build technical insurance knowledge across multiple classes
- Gain experience across both new business and renewals
- Work closely with experienced Underwriters
- Build your confidence dealing with brokers and internal stakeholders
About the Team:
It's a collaborative team where people share knowledge, support each other and enjoy working together. You'll be joining at an exciting point in the team's development, with the opportunity to grow alongside the function.
Working Pattern:
The role is based in Leeds with a hybrid working pattern of three days in the office each week, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. During your first month, you'll be office-based five days a week to support your training and development.
