Job Summary:
We are investing in our cyber team and have an exciting new opportunity for a Cyber Development Underwriter to join our team in Manchester. The Cyber Development Underwriter will play a key role in supporting Markel's Cyber growth strategy by underwriting complex SME cyber risks and developing strong broker relationships across the UK.
Based in Manchester, this role sits within our dedicated Cyber team and focuses on broker engagement, pipeline development, and trading performance. You'll act as a key point of contact for brokers while promoting our new digital e-trade capabilities and helping position Markel as a market leader in the UK SME Cyber space.
We are also open to candidates based around Birmingham and London.

Business Unit Overview:
This role is based within our National Markets UK (NMUK) Broker Channel-the largest and fastest-growing part of our UK business. With the SME Cyber market presenting a £300M+ GWP opportunity growing at 15% annually, we've launched a dedicated Cyber centre of excellence in Manchester. This team supports our ambitious goal of growing our Cyber book from under £1M to £35M GWP by 2030.
You're a driven underwriter with strong commercial instincts and the ability to build meaningful broker relationships. You're technically strong in cyber underwriting and enjoy both face-to-face engagement and strategic account development. You want to work somewhere you can help shape the future and make a real impact.

What you'll be doing:
- Underwrite complex SME cyber risks within your authority, maintaining strong underwriting discipline
- Manage and grow a panel of brokers, acting as a visible and trusted partner
- Support pipeline development, broker planning, and income delivery
- Provide input into team reporting and performance updates
- Maintain accurate broker data in the CRM and drive data-led engagement
- Coach and support junior team members through mentoring and referrals
- Promote cyber insurance awareness through broker training and events
- Work closely with internal partners to deliver quality outcomes for brokers and customers
