BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a versatile and highly motivated individual to join our European gas analysis team for a 6 month contract. To succeed in this role, you will have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for data and quantitative methods alongside a genuine appreciation of the importance of data. In this role you will be focused on ensuring the data used in our research and analysis is sourced, stored, modelled and visualized to the highest possible standards whilst also helping build our new generation of client-facing tools.

You will need to be well-developed on quantitative and qualitative analysis skills along with a particular interest in critically analyzing complex subjects. Applications from candidates with an academic or career related expertise in gas markets or similar are particularly welcome.

You will be based in our London office as part of the European natural gas analyst team for BloombergNEF - the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers advancing the future of energy. Our team of experts, spread across six continents, provides analysis and insight to the largest corporations across utilities and generation, oil & gas, equipment manufacturers, banking and finance, and government.

We'll trust you to:

  • Collaborate with colleagues to complete foundational tools and data structuring initiatives for setting up country-level gas supply/demand dynamics.
  • Strengthen the existing analysis by growing BNEF’s Europe coverage area and linking it to the team's modeling workflow.
  • Work on ad hoc data-related projects to meet client expectations.
  • Contribute quantitative insights and expertise to the work of the team and provide expertise and input to ongoing research.
  • Assist with process mapping alongside ongoing process refinement and improvement initiatives.

You’ll need to have:

  • Curiosity and ability to quickly understand, distil and work with sophisticated topics and data sets.
  • Strong understanding of data and statistical methods such as regressions, correlations and time-series analysis.
  • A track record of thinking critically and developing well-structured and thoughtful analysis by cutting through the noise of data, extracting key patterns, applying scepticism and challenging conventional wisdom.
  • Proven and tangible expertise in crafting, refining and improving existing Python code to a high standard combined with the ability to efficiently write new code.
  • Advanced and well-developed Excel skills.
  • PowerBI knowledge.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to understand user-requirements and to quickly turn these into new scripts and models adopted by the analyst team.
  • Experience in commodities markets, particularly energy, is desirable but is not a pre-requisite for the role.
