About the Role
Avara Foods is one of the UK’s leading food businesses supplying chicken and turkey to major supermarkets and well‑known restaurants. The Telford site is a modern manufacturing facility processing up to 1.7 million birds per week, and this role is factory‑based in a fast‑paced, dynamic FMCG environment. You will work days and nights on a 4‑4 shift pattern (06:00‑18:30 and 18:00‑06:30).
Key Responsibilities
- Take a lead role within your team during breakdowns, using your skills and experience.
- Ensure maintenance is carried out in line with PPM schedules and effective corrective action is taken.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns in multiple areas, identify root cause and suggest improvements to prevent further breakdowns.
- Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with operations to minimise plant disruption.
- Follow engineering standards and good hygiene practice across the department & site.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety guidelines, highlighting improvement areas to management.
- Report health and safety, animal welfare and environmental issues in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate basic fault‑finding techniques to identify root cause of issues.
- Raise Stock and Non‑Stock request forms.
- Use the CMMS system for spare parts, logging and completing jobs.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
- Solid engineering experience, ideally within food manufacturing.
- Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and ability to fault find.
- Mechanical fitting skills; machining, welding and fabrication experience advantageous.
- Ability to mentor colleagues.
- A self‑motivated attitude with the ability to multi‑task and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
- A proactive, can‑do attitude.
Desirable Skills
- Industrial refrigeration experience (desirable).
- IEE 17th or 18th edition.
- Advanced electrical qualification.
- Good knowledge of PLCs, variable speed drives and control systems.
