About the Role

Are you passionate about engineering and looking for a new challenge? With experience in machinery or qualifications in mechanical/electrical engineering, you could join our Engineering Team as a Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer at the Wednesbury site. The role is factory based, so you’ll work in a fast‑paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment that is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf‑life products where hygiene standards are critical. You will work a rotating 4‑0‑4‑0 pattern (05:00–17:00 and 12:00–00:00) with a shift premium of £5,006.56.

Key Responsibilities

  • Subject Matter Expert in one area of the factory or lower tier of the Multi‑Skilled Engineer framework.
  • Ensure maintenance is carried out in line with scheduled plans and effective corrective action is taken.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns in multiple areas onsite, identify root cause and suggest improvements to prevent further breakdowns.
  • Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Section Manager and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
  • Follow good engineering and hygiene practice for the department.
  • Ensure all activities comply with company and legislative health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible improvements.
  • Timely report any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental issues.
  • Follow the communicated escalation route for unscheduled plant downtime and minimise downtime by applying good engineering practice.
  • Demonstrate basic problem‑solving techniques to identify root causes of issues.

Requirements

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.
  • Level 3 NVQ in electrical or mechanical engineering (military equivalents considered).
  • 4 + years of engineering experience.
  • Electrical or welding/fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and ability to fault‑find.
  • Mechanical fitting skills.
  • Self‑motivated attitude, ability to multi‑task and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • For internal candidates, a score of 7 on the Level 2 to Level 3 Competency matrix.

Desirable

  • Food manufacture experience.
  • IEE 17th or 18th Edition.
  • Instrumentation and process control experience.
  • PLC experience.
  • Air and pneumatics training.
  • Refrigeration experience.
