As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our people across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Brackley site.
The role is Factory-based, working in a fast-paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf-life products where hygiene standards are critical. As a Maintenance Engineer, your working hours will be:
- Friday: 10.00 am – 19.00 pm
- Saturday: 07.00 am – 19.00 pm
- Sunday: 07.00 am – 19.00 pm
- Monday: 07.00 am – 16.00 pm
Responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will:
- Optimize machinery output and product quality, minimize plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance, and respond efficiently to breakdowns in your designated area, while maintaining a safe environment and promoting good engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure maintenance is carried out according to schedule, with effective corrective actions.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns, identify root causes, and suggest improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Communicate breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and collaborate with operations to minimize disruption.
- Follow good engineering and hygiene practices.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines, reporting issues promptly.
- Report health, animal welfare, and environmental issues timely.
- Follow escalation routes for plant downtime to minimize impact.
- Apply basic problem-solving techniques to identify root causes.
- Raise stock and non-stock requests as needed.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Experience as a machine minder or technical operator.
- Interest in developing a career in engineering.
- Numerical and reasoning skills suitable for a technical apprenticeship (including L2 literacy and numeracy and a technical abilities test).
- Practical ability to operate within an FMCG factory.
- Self-motivated, able to multitask and work under time constraints.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Engineering experience.
- Knowledge of machinery adjustments and typical breakdown causes.
- Understanding of operational conditions and irregularities.
- Ability to perform inspections, measurements, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
