About the Role
Lab Technician Apprentice – join our Laboratory team and complete a 2‑year apprenticeship leading to a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Applied Science, a Registered Science Technician status, and a permanent Lab Technician role.
Purpose of the Role
You will be a member of our Laboratory team from day 1, gaining experience in the microbiology and chemistry departments while simultaneously completing the apprenticeship programme.
Working Hours
08:30–17:00 Mon‑Fri
Pay Rate
£12.71 per hour
Responsibilities
- Undertake routine laboratory work in the microbiology and chemistry labs, performing analysis to CLAS, TLAS and UKAS/DEFRA standards.
- Produce, analyse and interpret data, including the application of statistical techniques.
- Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in accordance with established procedures.
- Communicate scientific information effectively.
- Apply scientific methods to identify the causes of problems and produce solutions.
- Comply with food safety and HSE guidelines.
- Collaborate in continuous improvement of quality, safety and productivity standards.
- Maintain housekeeping and hygiene standards individually and as part of a team.
- Refer to written methods when carrying out tasks to ensure accreditation compliance.
- Follow instructions as given by management.
Qualifications
- GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 4/C or above in English, Maths and a Science subject (Biology or Chemistry desirable).
- Not eligible if already holding a BTEC in Applied Science or a Scientific Degree (Levy Funded).
- Good level of English and Maths skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Competent IT skills.
- Passion for science and drive to pursue a laboratory‑based apprenticeship standard.
