About the Role

Multi‑skilled Engineer based at Hatchery in Ower, Hampshire. Minimum Level 3 qualification in Engineering, preferably IEE 17th or 18th Edition.

Working Days and Shifts

  • Mon to Sat (5 shifts out of 6)
  • Week 1: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
  • Week 2: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat

Working Hours: 06:00 – 15:00. Total Hours: 40 hours per week.

Purpose of the Role

As a Multi‑Skilled Engineer operating within a busy hatchery environment, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, maintaining production efficiency, and minimising downtime through effective planned and reactive maintenance. You will work in a fast‑paced environment where biosecurity, animal welfare, hygiene, and safety standards are critical at all times. This is a predominantly site‑based role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Diagnose faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and identify root causes
  • Communicate issues and downtime with management and operations teams
  • Record spare parts usage via CMMS system
  • Maintain high standards of engineering, hygiene, and biosecurity
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are audit compliant
  • Work safely in line with health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Support calibration of equipment where required
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks
  • Support installation, refurbishment, and improvement projects
  • Work safely in controlled environments and follow site procedures
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and operational standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Time‑served multi‑skilled apprenticeship in engineering discipline
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • Proactive and safety‑focused approach
  • Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail
  • Strong team player with a flexible attitude
  • Experience in hatchery, agriculture, or food production environments desirable
  • IEE 17th/18th Edition desirable
  • PLC knowledge desirable
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics experience desirable
