Hours of work: 0700 - 1900 - Rotating pattern 7 out of 14 days

Job Shift Pattern

We are currently looking for staff to work on a rotational shift pattern that operates as follows: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off.

Example shift pattern (over 2 weeks):

  • Week 1: Tue - Wed: off; Thu - Fri: on; Sat - Mon: off
  • Week 2: Tue - Wed: on; Thu - Fri: off; Sat - Mon: on

This cycle repeats every 2 weeks.

Purpose of the role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will be a key player in the Laboratory department. You will perform microbiological, chemical, serological and other analysis, and media preparation to enable good customer service in undertaking testing requirements.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Undertaking routine laboratory work and performing analysis to CLAS / RSA, UKAS and DEFRA standards.
  • Using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in accordance with the procedures.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers, dealing with their requests and queries.
  • Carrying out environmental controls, QA controls and ensuring adherence to the task rota.
  • Participating in the EQA / IQA proficiency schemes.

What we are looking for:

  • Education to A level (or equivalent) in Biology or other relevant scientific subject or relevant experience.
  • HNC / HND / Degree in science equivalent is ideal.
  • Experience of laboratory testing in a food laboratory.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Competent IT skills.
