This is a fantastic opportunity for aService Desk Apprenticeto work as part of an internal IT team and who is confident in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You may not have heard of us, but there’s a good chance you’ve enjoyed our products. Avara Foods is one of the UK’s leading food businesses, supplying chicken and turkey to the country’s major supermarkets and well-known restaurants.

We own and manage our entire supply chain, from farms to factory and all the way to the customer door – meaning we have careers that cover a whole range of functions. We have major processing sites across England and Wales, and an agricultural network of over 350 farms, spanning from North Yorkshire to the South Coast and Wales.

Purpose of the role

As a key member of the IT Service Desk, the Apprentice will help with all IT support related issues, assisting the Service Desk Technicians and Analysts.

The Service Desk Team operate in a traditional tiered service desk structure designed around the ITIL framework and the Apprentice will perform general duties across the remit of the Service Desk Activities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Answer telephone calls in a professional, confident, and timely manner
  • Learn to log, categorize, and track incoming IT tickets
  • Assist users with basic technical inquiries via phone, email, web portal, and in person
  • Shadow experienced team members to develop troubleshooting skills
  • Contribute to maintaining the service desk knowledge base
  • Participate in regular training sessions and self-study activities
  • Support basic IT system administration tasks

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Good general education with strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Windows
  • Demonstratable communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Problem-solving aptitude and logical thinking
  • Genuine interest in technology and IT systems
  • Previous customer service experience (desirable)
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and software (desirable)
  • IT-related qualifications or courses (e.g., GCSE Computing, IT BTec) (desirable)
