Reporting to the Team Leader, the role is responsible for the bird welfare of the production line within the Arrival area. The primary role involves working on the live bird hanging line and, as required, standing in as a CAS (Controlled Atmosphere Stunning) Technician to support operational continuity.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week. Job and finish times: 04:30 am‑13:30 pm Monday‑Thursday, 04:30 am‑13:30 pm (with J & F) Friday, 12:45 pm‑21:45 pm (with J & F) Sunday, 13:30 pm‑22:30 pm (with J & F) Monday‑Thursday.

Primary Role – Hanger (Arrival Operative):

  • Ensure all birds are correctly placed on the production line while complying with strict bird welfare standards.
  • Lifting in the region of 2 kg per bird on a repetitive basis.
  • Comply with Bird Welfare standards.
  • Understand the importance of safe working practices and procedures related to all areas of the job, and be fully aware of the required safety equipment needed to perform tasks and how equipment should be used.
  • Understand and comply with all department and company policies and guidelines.
  • Handle/lift crates averaging 15 kg.
  • Carry out instructions as given by Supervisor/Management.

Secondary Role – CAS Technician (Cover Only):

  • Operate the CAS (gas stunning) system during periods of staff absence or as required.
  • Ensure settings for the CAS system are appropriate for the loading of birds in crates.
  • Conduct pre‑start checks and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Carry out system checks, routine maintenance, and accurate record keeping.
  • Monitor the infeed from the linco system in the CAS pit.
  • Be aware of the usage of material and energy sources.

Qualifications:

  • Good level of English and basic numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively.
  • Good attention to detail and a flexible attitude to tasks.
  • Experience within a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in operating CAS or similar gas stunning systems or operating machinery.
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare, or willingness to be trained.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training for CAS Technician duties.
