The Opportunity: Responsible for the day-to-day activities of an assigned group of onsite lab services team members. Monitors key department metrics to deliver high level service to customers. Handles customer questions and issues, researches and resolves customer problems. Prepares schedules to cover departmental duties. Manages performance goals including appraisals, mentoring and coaching. May assist higher level supervisor. Role Title: Senior Lab Manager Role Overview: Avantor Services provides a broad variety of on-site Laboratory and Materials Management Services for major pharmaceutical customers and works collaboratively with the client to provide resource to deliver core scientific activities. OTD Chemistry requires an individual to manage the onsite scientific support services as a Senior Lab Manager. This role is multi-disciplinary, and the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of a defined set of laboratories, including Laboratory Support and Materials Management. The Senior Lab Manager role directly and indirectly supports scientists across R&D functions within AstraZeneca UK, allowing scientists to concentrate on their core role. This role is to be primarily lab-based, focusing on the delivery of scientific technical support to the R&D laboratories in accordance with Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Standards requirements. Main point of contact for the packing, preparation and shipment of samples both internally and externally Managing workload priorities, coordination, and execution of the daily operational work for the scientific support team Change/modification management (change control) Provide first line support for the scientific support team Provide operational cover when/if needed for the scientific support team Creation, maintenance and updating relevant documentation in support of service delivery compliance and training e.g., work instructions, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and training records Analyse reports, measurements, and benchmarks to identify opportunities for continuous improvements utilising ABS tools Lead improvement and innovation projects Be a main point of contact for all site queries and a point of escalation for queries and issues. Resolve or escalate complex queries from the customer Lead health and safety inspections and service audits as required and carry out monthly GEMBA walks Work collaboratively with other suppliers and vendors to problem solve and innovate Understand Avantor\’s policies as they affect the organisation and help to implement those policies through conduct and leadership Adhere to and promote all health and safety regulations and procedures (IOSH standard). Act on and report any deviations. Incident response and investigation, root cause analysis (RCAs) Reporting Create and maintain weekly/monthly reports or dashboards for AstraZeneca or Avantor as requested and required Overview and management of any reports or data that the team is required to create for AstraZeneca or Avantor Preparation of monthly and quarterly data required for the review slides for AstraZeneca governance reviews, including KPI data capture along with analysis of any deviations Report all unsafe acts, conditions or near misses on to ETQ and SHE Enablon Managerial Responsibilities: Line management of scientific support team Holiday allocation and approval to ensure holiday allocation is used without impacting business needs Resilience planning to ensure business continuity Succession planning to ensure business continuity Developmental and essential job training needs of the scientific support team Annual performance review for each associate, along with quarterly check ins.
