The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for an experienced Junior Buyer – In Vivo to join the team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position you’ll take ownership in supporting animal studies from a procurement perspective – managing ordering of laboratory animals (rats and mice), animal diet, enrichment materials and consumables.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with existing procurement experience and familiarity with procurement systems who is looking to grow their career in a multinational, supportive environment.
This role will be a full-time permanent position based in brand-new facility at the customer site – The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. The team
You’ll be part of a team of 7 Buyers and a Team Leader, specialising in the procurement of laboratory consumables and equipment for research facilities in the UK and US. This role sists within our Lab and Production Services division, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and research institutions globally in the Life Science sector.
What we’re looking for
Experience:
- Previous experience in procurement, ideally within a regulated scientific or in vivo research environment
- Familiarity with procurement systems
- Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and DEFRA notifications is preferable
- Understanding of SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) policies and procedures
- Sensitivity to the ethical and regulatory considerations of in vivo research
- Understanding of how procurement supports the broader goals of in vivo research and animal welfare

- Manage end-to-end procurement of laboratory animals, diets, enrichment, and consumables, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards
- Act as the main point of contact for in vivo research staff, handling procurement queries and coordinating with internal stakeholders
- Track orders through to delivery, and maintain accurate documentation for compliance and audits
- Support continuous improvement by identifying operational efficiencies and contributing to a safe, ethical, and collaborative team environment
