What you’ll love about this role

Avantis Education is a global EdTech company on a mission to make powerful, immersive technology simple, accessible and impactful in classrooms. Our products, including ClassVR, are used by schools across 100+ countries, helping teachers deliver more engaging, inclusive and meaningful learning experiences every day.

This is a senior engineering role at the heart of what we make. You’ll take technical ownership of how immersive educational experiences are built for ClassVR, working in Unity alongside the Head of Content, artists and educators to ship interactive apps that reach children around the world.

To find out more about our products please visit classvr.com.

What you’ll be doing

You won’t just write code; you’ll shape how the team works. That means owning the content production pipeline, building tools that help non-engineers collaborate effectively, mentoring junior developers and setting the technical bar for everything that sits on our ClassVR headsets.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Engineering & Delivery
    • Design, implement and test maintainable, well-documented software for ClassVR headsets.
    • Optimise experiences to perform reliably on mobile hardware, balancing reliability with performance constraints.
    • Own the technical aspects of the content production pipeline, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Collaboration & Tooling
    • Build tools and workflows that enable artists, designers and educators to contribute effectively without engineering support.
    • Evaluate and feedback on the ClassVR SDK, contributing to its improvement from a content development perspective.
    • Keep technical documentation clear, current and useful for the wider team.
  • Leadership & Standards
    • Mentor junior developers, conducting code reviews and actively raising the quality bar across the team.
    • Stay current with XR industry trends and emerging technologies, championing the most impactful innovations within ClassVR content.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Strong C# skills, with a solid understanding of software architecture and performance optimisation.
  • Hands-on XR development experience in Unity, ideally including shipped titles or products.
  • Proven experience developing and optimising for mobile platforms.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment, with a collaborative, iterative approach to delivery.
  • Proficient with Git or equivalent version control, with good habits around branching, code review and documentation.
  • Relevant industry background in game development, VR/AR, or a closely related field.

Desirable

  • Experience in EdTech or education-focused product development.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and build infrastructure.
  • Understanding of QA best practices and experience working alongside QA in a structured release process.

What you’ll get

  • A senior engineering role with real ownership — not just tickets to close, but a product and pipeline to shape.
  • Your work in classrooms across 100+ countries, reaching students who'd never otherwise access immersive technology.
  • A tight-knit team of engineers, artists and educators who care deeply about what they’re building — and why.
  • Competitive salary and benefits, reviewed regularly, with flexible hybrid working.
