Avanti Gas is looking for a proactive and customer-focused IT Support Technician to join our IT team, supporting employees across Avanti Gas (our UK business) and Kosan Gas (our Nordics business) with first- and second-line technical support.

We are looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with people, and getting hands‑on with a wide range of technologies - someone who can diagnose issues quickly, communicate clearly, and keep our IT systems, hardware, and software running smoothly for everyone who relies on them.

The Opportunity

As IT Support Technician, you will be the first point of contact for IT queries across the business, providing proactive support to employees and ensuring technical issues are resolved efficiently and within agreed timeframes.

Reporting to the IT Service Manager for the UK and Nordics, and working within our wider matrix organisation, you will be part of a team of three based in the UK, working alongside three further colleagues in our Danish business.

This is more than a helpdesk role - it's about being a reliable technical focal point across a broad range of IT projects and activities, helping to keep hardware, software, and systems running smoothly while supporting the wider business as it grows.

Some travel to depots across the UK should be expected, with occasional international travel to support the wider region.

  • What You Will Be Doing
  • Act as the first point of contact for IT queries via telephone and our helpdesk ticketing system.
  • Promote the use of our bespoke self‑service portal within Service Now, helping end users submit requests to the correct IT team.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with hardware, software, networks, and peripherals.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain laptops, mobile devices, and other IT equipment.
  • Support users with Microsoft 365, Windows, and other common business applications.
  • Perform user administration duties across Active Directory and other platforms.
  • Record and manage issues using Service Now, resolving user faults within agreed fix times and maintaining SLAs.
  • Use remote‑control software tools to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently.
  • Support the delivery of key business and transformation projects, liaising with international technical teams across the UGI group.
  • Complete equipment assessments and checks on returned assets, maintaining accurate asset deployment registers.
  • What We Are Looking For

Functional

  • Experience working within the support function of an IT department.
  • Experience of mobile hardware and software (Android).
  • Competence with Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, Core View, Office 365 and related applications.
  • Experience of Azure is desirable but not essential.
  • Familiarity with hardware builds, imaging, and deployments is desirable.
  • Experience supporting Vo IP systems and mobile device management (MDM) is desirable.
  • An IT and/or Microsoft qualification, such as ITIL processes or Microsoft Certified, is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of cloud‑based solutions and operations.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure, prioritising your own workload.

Personal

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the business.
  • Effective planning and organisation, with the ability to handle conflicting priorities.
  • A problem‑solving approach to activities and tasks.
  • Willingness to undertake manual handling for equipment movements.
  • The Rewards
  • Exposure to a broad range of IT projects across an international business
  • Collaborative team environment with strong support from your line manager and colleagues
  • Professional development and ongoing training opportunities

How to prepare for a job interview at AvantiGas

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
