We are seeking a Control Competency Manager to lead the governance, consistency, and continuous improvement of our Control Competency Management System (CMS). This is a critical role responsible for ensuring our Controllers achieve and maintain the competency standards required to safely and effectively manage our railway operation. Through training, assessment, coaching, and continuous development, you will help create a highly capable Control team that delivers safe, consistent, customer-focused decision-making.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the management, assessment, and competency assurance of all Control functions across Avanti West Coast.
  • Coordinate assessment schedules and deliver competency assessments in line with the planned Competency Management System.
  • Act as the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) for Control, overseeing a team of assessors and ensuring assessment consistency, quality, and compliance.
  • Conduct regular verification activities to maintain assessment standards and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all services are operated safely and in full compliance with applicable legislation, safety standards, company policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and develop learning opportunities that enhance the Control Competency Management System and competency standards.
  • Work closely with the Operations Standards Manager to develop underpinning documentation, competency frameworks, and assessor standardisation programmes.
