What You\’ll Do

Reporting to the Foreperson, the Labour Patroller is responsible for patrolling county roads to monitor road conditions, identify and determine maintenance needs for winter operations, and instruct maintenance teams. The incumbent assists in maintaining the Department’s operational program by performing labouring duties to complete maintenance and repairs. Duties will be performed in various locations depending on maintenance needs and weather.

The Labour Patroller will perform patrolling and road and right‑of‑way maintenance activities contingent with the Bruce County levels of service and Minimum Maintenance Standards.

Contract Duration: Until the return of the incumbent.

What We\’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Secondary School Graduation – Grade 12 High School
  • D-Z Ontario Driver’s License

Skills & Abilities

  • 1 year of previous related experience; an asset
  • Basic understanding of road maintenance
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Proven communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations
  • Knowledge of minimum maintenance standards and commercial vehicle operator’s registration
  • Capable of working in adverse road and weather conditions
  • Sound analytical and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to complete labour‑intensive work, including heavy lifting
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed procedures, instructions, and take directions
  • Ability to accurately complete various logs, documents, inspection forms and other information using software programs
  • Audiometric testing completed within 90 days of starting position
  • Must be able to report to the assigned shop within approximately thirty (30) minutes of the call‑ins

The Corporation will use Article 13.04 of the CUPE Local 255.13 Collective Agreement in selecting the candidates.

What We Offer

Hourly Rate: $31.68/hr increasing to $32.63/hr January 1 2026.

This position is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the collective agreement between CUPE and the County of Bruce.
