We are working with a well-established Manchester-based digital and technology services business that builds, hosts and supports websites and platforms for a broad range of organisations. They are hiring a Cloud Engineer to join their infrastructure function at a key point of transformation, with responsibility for building and shaping a new cloud hosting platform. This is a hands-on role offering real ownership, technical depth and the chance to work on a large-scale migration project.
THE ROLE
You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining cloud hosting environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. The initial priority is supporting a migration from on-premise infrastructure into Azure and establishing a repeatable, automated approach to cloud delivery.
- Building and maintaining Azure hosting environments for websites and applications
- Implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Ansible
- Supporting Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and containerised workloads
- Managing limited AWS services where required
- Configuring cloud networking components such as Application Gateways and Load Balancers
- Working with CDN and WAF technologies (e.g. Cloudflare)
- Implementing cloud backup solutions
- Supporting Windows and Linux virtual machines where needed
- Working with Microsoft security and identity tooling (Defender, Entra, Intune)
- Defining migration processes and runbooks for operational teams
The role is cloud-first. Some Windows and Microsoft 365 involvement is required, particularly during migration, but this is not a traditional infrastructure support role.
ABOUT YOU
This role would suit a Cloud Engineer who is confident delivering real-world cloud environments and is ready to take on more responsibility. You are likely to have:
- Commercial experience delivering Azure-based hosting in production
- Experience supporting websites or platforms in the cloud
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or Ansible)
- Experience with Linux and Windows environments
- A solid understanding of cloud networking and security
- A collaborative, team-focused approach with strong communication skills
Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines or Azure certifications (AZ-104 or higher) is advantageous but not essential.
WORKING PATTERN
- Hybrid working model
- Manchester city centre office
- Minimum 2 days per week onsite
SALARY & BENEFITS
- £50,000 – £53,000 depending on experience
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (core hours 10:00–16:00)
