About us and the role

Avanti House Secondary School is seeking a skilled and motivated Learning Coach with a specialism in Economics to support teaching and learning across our sixth form. Working closely with teachers and colleagues, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality classroom support for A Level Economics, leading targeted academic support sessions, and helping students to access a broad and engaging curriculum. You will work with students to build subject confidence and independence, adapting your approach to ensure every student can thrive both academically and personally. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about Economics education, student development and building positive relationships. The successful candidate will contribute to a supportive, values‑led and ambitious learning environment, where every student is encouraged to achieve their full potential. What will you do?

  • Provide flexible in‑class, small group and one‑to‑one support to enable all students to access a broad and engaging Economics curriculum.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to support their learning in Economics.
  • Support the marking and feedback of student work.
  • Support the development of independent study skills, including effective organisation.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and leaders to support student progress and wellbeing in Economics.
  • Promote positive behaviour, social and emotional development, and uphold safeguarding responsibilities at all times.
  • Communicate with parents and carers about progress in Economics.
  • Engage with families, contribute to the wider school community, and take an active role in ongoing professional development.

What are we looking for?

  • Evidence of strong communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent level of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Subject knowledge of, or academic background in, Economics, ideally to A Level standard or above.
  • An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.
  • An ability to understand the principles of learning and development, and in particular barriers to learning.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students.
