At Avant Homes, a housebuilder operating across Scotland, the North East of England, Yorkshire and the East and West Midlands, we are looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team at our Edinburgh head office. This role offers the opportunity to learn and develop your surveying skills within an established housebuilder.

Key responsibilities:

  • Process subcontractor orders, invoice payments and variations using Excel and the Group ERP system COINS.
  • Attend developments and assist the Quantity Surveyor with the bi‑monthly valuation process.
  • Liaise with subcontractors on day‑to‑day queries and assist with onsite subcontractor meetings.
  • Assist in preparing tenders and support the procurement of subcontractors.
  • Liaise with the development site teams for day‑to‑day queries.
  • Assist with new site tenders, including preparing subcontractor tender analysis documents and supporting accurate project costings.
  • Create new site records on COINS.
  • Perform basic quantity take‑offs and measurement tasks to support cost planning and estimating.
  • Manage directly employed weekly payments for subcontractor trades.
  • Attend bi‑monthly valuation meetings and help assemble valuation packs.
  • Update build cost documents and orders on the system following agreed price changes.
  • Develop a strong understanding of quantity surveying principles, practices and procedures through on‑job learning.
  • Contribute to identifying cost savings and assist with cost control.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • Willingness to learn and develop.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Proficient IT skills, especially Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Team player who can also work independently using initiative.
