Our Data & AI team is made up of curious, client-focused professionals who help organisations build trusted, governed, high-quality data solutions. We’re looking for a Purview Data Governance Consultant with strong data governance and data management experience (including data quality and MDM) and hands-on technical skills from a data analyst or data engineer background, with an appreciation of broader cloud architecture and networking.
If you’re passionate about helping organisations understand, trust, and govern their data—and you enjoy working at the intersection of governance, platforms, and delivery—we’d love to talk.
As a member of Avanade’s Data & AI practice, you’ll work with clients to design, implement, and embed modern data governance capabilities across Microsoft Purview, cloud data platforms, and analytics ecosystems. You’ll play a hands-on role in helping organisations establish clear data ownership, classification, lineage, and policy enforcement — turning governance from theory into something that genuinely enables analytics and AI.
This role is ideal for consultants who are both governance-minded and technically capable, able to work credibly with data engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders alike.
- Design and implement data governance solutions using Microsoft Purview Data Governance, including cataloguing, classification, lineage, and domain-based governance models.
- Use governance to enable data value creation, discoverability, secure access, and responsible data use.
- Work with clients to define data ownership, stewardship, policies, and operating models aligned to business and regulatory needs.
- Configure and integrate Purview with Azure data platforms, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Databricks, other data sources, and MDM tools, ensuring governance is embedded within delivery pipelines.
- Support the implementation and governance of Databricks Unity Catalog, aligning technical controls with organisational data governance objectives.
- Analyse data platforms and pipelines to assess metadata coverage, lineage, data quality signals, and policy enforcement.
- Collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure governance and data quality are practical, usable, and automated wherever possible.
- Translate governance concepts into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help clients move from ad hoc or tool-led governance to sustainable, product-oriented, domain-aligned models.
- Contribute to the development of Avanade accelerators, patterns, and thought leadership in data governance and trust.
Proven experience as a Data Governance Consultant, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or similar role within data or analytics programmes.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview Data Governance, including cataloguing, classification, lineage, and policy concepts.
- Strong understanding of modern data platforms and architectures, ideally within Microsoft and Databricks ecosystems.
- Practical technical skills in SQL, Python, and data engineering / analytics tooling, enabling effective collaboration with delivery teams.
- Ability to explain governance concepts clearly and pragmatically, focusing on enablement rather than control.
- Experience with technologies such as Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and data integration tools is advantageous.
- Pragmatic and outcome-focused, with a desire to make data governance genuinely useful.
- Comfortable working across governance, data engineering, and analytics communities.
- Curious about how organisations use (and misuse) data, and how better governance can unlock value.
- Confident working in uncertain or evolving data landscapes.
- Keen to learn and stay current with emerging approaches to data trust, governance, and AI readiness.
Opportunity to work for Microsoft’s Global Alliance Partner of the Year (20 times).
- A minimum of 80 hours per year dedicated to learning, certifications, and professional development.
- Access to global Data & AI communities, accelerators, and subject-matter experts.
- The chance to work on complex, high-impact initiatives across data governance, analytics, and AI.
- Clear and supported career progression across Consultant and Senior Consultant levels.
As we continue to build our diverse and inclusive culture, we become even more innovative and creative, helping us better serve our clients and our communities. You’ll join a community of smart, supportive collaborators to lift, mentor, and guide you, and lean on your expertise.
