Avalon’s dedicated Distribution arm licenses programmes and formats to global markets. With over 4,000 episodes of programming in its catalogue, and content sold into over 150 countries worldwide, we have extensive distribution expertise across a range of genres including comedy, entertainment, dramedy and factual. The vast combined knowledge of our five-member Distribution team contributes to the division’s success.
Key Responsibilities
- The Senior Sales Manager, Distribution, is responsible for driving revenue and managing sales across key territories, exceeding sales targets, and opening up new revenue streams / client relationships.
- The role combines commercial responsibility and driving sales revenue with operational oversight, ensuring that all contracts, delivery processes, RMS updates, and internal communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with Avalon’s global distribution objectives.
- The role also ensures that the department, senior colleagues, and the Head of Distribution are kept fully informed on all deals, including during periods of absence.
Specific Duties
- Drive sales and revenue growth across key territories, consistently achieving or exceeding targets.
- Lead complex, high-value negotiations across Avalon’s slate in the key territories.
- Contribute to the development and execution of regional sales strategies and align with global sales initiatives.
- Responsible for accurate sales forecasting for new titles, whilst leading on territory and buyer research and development as needed.
- Formulate comprehensive launch strategies across new title launches (scripted + unscripted).
- Work with the SVP Global Formats and Programme Sales across format sales in key territories.
- Territory Focus: Territories to be agreed with the Head of Distribution to align with the Company’s needs and requirements. Initial territory focus to include Nordics, Germany, CEE and others.
Client + Partner Relationships
- Build and maintain strong, senior-level relationships with key broadcasters, platforms, and emerging buyers.
- Represent Avalon at major industry markets and festivals such as MIPCOM, Series Mania, NEM, London Screenings, and other relevant content and sales events.
- This includes working with the Distribution team, Marketing + PR teams across the organisation and execution of Avalon’s attendance at these events.
- Act as a key point of contact for priority clients, ensuring seamless deal execution and long-term collaboration.
Operational Administration, Systems + Internal Communication
- Responsible for end-to-end deal processing for all deals, including maintaining the contract and delivery tracker, ensuring accuracy and timely updates across all deals and with all relevant departments.
- Keep the Rights Management System (RMS) updated with all active deals and relevant details.
- Manage and optimise departmental systems, including sales trackers, availability lists, and CRM platforms for deals.
- Take responsibility for any new systems or tools as required by the Head of Distribution, ensuring smooth implementation and integration into workflow for deals.
- Ensure deal terms and deliverables are accurately documented and communicated across legal, finance, operations, and marketing teams for deals.
- Proactively manage internal communications around active deals, keeping the department, senior colleagues, and Head of Distribution fully informed, including during periods of absence.
- Support financial forecasting and reporting with accurate, timely, and reliable sales data for deals.
- Support senior members of the team as and when required.
- Actively collaborate with team members and external departments.
Attention to Detail + Compliance
- Uphold exceptional standards of accuracy and consistency across all documentation, systems, and reporting.
- Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies in processes or data to prevent operational or contractual issues.
- Ensure full compliance with internal policies and contractual obligations across all deals.
- Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are kept informed and up to date with deals at every stage of the process, seeking written approvals where required.
About You
- Strong track record in international content distribution sales, including scripted and unscripted tape sales and format sales.
- Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organisational skills.
- Strong understanding of operational processes, systems, and workflows supporting distribution.
- Skilled negotiator and relationship manager, comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent internal communicator, able to keep multiple departments and senior colleagues aligned on deal progress at all times.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across legal, finance, operations, and marketing functions.
