Senior Technical Director – HVDC
AVA Energy are working with a major UK-based energy infrastructure owner to appoint a Senior Technical Director (HVDC) to take overall responsibility for the technical, operational, regulatory, and business oversight of an established HVDC interconnector asset. This is a permanent, senior leadership appointment offering the opportunity to play a critical role in the long-term performance, compliance, and optimisation of a strategically important cross-border power transmission asset.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing overall technical, regulatory, and business leadership for the HVDC interconnector, ensuring asset integrity, performance, and compliance.
- Leading the multidisciplinary technical team, including mentoring, development, and governance across technical, operational, and regulatory functions.
- Overseeing operational performance, reliability, and maintenance strategies.
- Providing technical input into contracts, procurement, commercial, and regulatory decisions.
- Supporting investment decisions, budgeting, cost optimisation, and long-term asset strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Experience required:
- 10–15+ years’ experience working with HVDC systems, interconnectors, or high-voltage power transmission assets.
- Proven experience with operational or established HVDC assets (not purely EPC or new-build delivery).
- Strong technical expertise across HVDC cables, converter stations, and transmission infrastructure.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Experience providing technical input into business, regulatory, and commercial/contract decisions.
- Comfortable operating in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
- Degree in Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline.
