The Role:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Facilities and Services Support Cell Technician Engineer to join our clients Engineering Team in Northampton on a permanent basis. The role is an integral part of the site engineering team, with responsibilities to ensure safety, legislative compliance, reliability, people leadership and continuous improvement of our plant support services. This will include electrical infrastructure and distribution, production process extraction systems, HVAC systems, compressed air systems, industrial balers, gas distribution, water distribution and fire safety systems. The role supports the management of maintenance contracts, working with the Engineering Manager and team to ensure 'value-for-money' contracts and supporting compliance of statutory legislative and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities will also include monitoring plant facilities performance, planning preventive maintenance activities to ensure a safe and reliable plant. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills, with a problem-solving mindset, and a flexible approach to working in a hands-on role across a variety of plant facilities services and equipment. The position requires proactive approach to problem-solving and failure analysis, focused on identifying opportunities for improvement and establishing failure prevention through implementation of both preventive and predictive maintenance strategies on plant services equipment, critical infrastructure and support facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring safety systems and practices are followed at all times, and that meaningful safety for life conversations are taking place frequently
- Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect operations, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Develop and implement appropriate predictive and preventive maintenance strategies based on reliability data to ensure equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Work closely with the engineering and maintenance teams to integrate new technologies and methods that increase reliability and performance. This may involve overseeing the implementation of reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) and total productive maintenance (TPM) programs.
- Prepare reports and documentation to record findings, make recommendations and track performance failures and improvement measures.
- Identify and propose new technologies and processes that can improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Analyse the failure modes of equipment and systems to prevent failures and downtime using FMECA and apply statistical analysis to predict future system reliability and risk of failure.
- Work closely with other engineers and professionals to design out failure where necessary and ensure reliability and durability of new Capital Investment Projects.
- Resourcing overtime and manning in line with operational requirements & management request
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Safety-conscious with the ability to identify potential hazards and take the necessary steps to reduce or eliminate the risk.
- Strong understanding of facilities engineering principles, including both mechanical and electrical disciplines, with proven experience as a lead facilities engineer or similar role.
- Relevant qualification (HNC or HND) in facilities engineering or a mechanical engineering discipline. A relevant electrical qualification would also be an advantage.
- Ability to identify potential issues and develop cost-effective solutions to ensure optimal performance and longevity of system reliability.
- Knowledge of compressed air systems, HVAC systems, industrial boilers, fire protection systems, transportation systems, and industrial baler systems would be an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate collaboration with various stakeholders, including contractors, vendors and cross-functional internal teams.
- Ability to use MS office (including Word & Excel) and a understanding of CMMS systems (ideally SAP).
