Tooling / CAD Engineer – 6 months fixed term contract

Who are we:

Auxitrol Weston Operating Unit (OU) consists of 3 manufacturing plants, Auxitrol SAS (France), Weston Aerospace Ltd (UK), Auxitrol Weston (Mexico), with 3 R&D departments in France, UK and Norwich Aero Products Inc (US) along with 3 repair capabilities in France, UK & Singapore.

Weston Aerospace Ltd has approximately 175 employees at Farnborough whose responsibilities are to design and manufacture temperature, speed and pressure sensors for gas turbine and airframe applications. We have another smaller manufacturing site dedicated to analogue indicators, based in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire with 16 employees.

Role and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support an NPI project as an experienced Tool Designer, working as part of an integrated project team, closely with the Product Design & Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Design and develop a suite of tools to enable the assembly and manufacture of a range of sensor products.
  • Advise on tooling queries, support the re-work of existing tools, and collaborate with sub-contracted manufacturing companies and material suppliers.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in taking a design from concept through to a proven part.
  • Liaise with Engineering and other Departments to produce cost estimates for new product / tooling designs.

In addition, all employees of Advanced Input are expected to:

  • Promote teamwork and cooperative effort
  • Help train and give guidance to employees
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and unobstructed work area
  • Provide customers with the highest quality of products and services
  • Understand and apply appropriate quality improvement processes
  • Report to work as scheduled

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in a similar role that encompasses the above responsibilities
  • CAD / SolidWorks experience, able to create 3D models and detailed drawings
  • Knowledge of BS8888, G&T. engineering drawing layout
  • Knowledge of COTS items commonly used in jigs & fixtures
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods — conventional machining, EDM, fabrication, different welding methods, additive manufacturing
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and treatments (metals, plastics, ceramics & other high temperature materials, heat treatments, surface finishing)
  • Demonstrated background of product and process improvement
  • Mechanical / Electronic knowledge
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Understanding of AS9100
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) intermediate level
  • Understanding of PPAP & APQP
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, managing multiple streams of work
  • Ability to read and interpret technical /engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Additive manufacturing experience (FDM, DLP)

Desirable

  • FE analysis
  • CNC/CAM capability (HAAS programming / SolidCAM)
  • Experience of using following equipment: vertical milling machine, lathe, pedestal grinder, precision hand tools, and precision measuring devices
