About the role
We're looking for an experienced Test Engineer to help us enhance the consumer experience for millions of visitors to the UK's leading automotive marketplace. This role combines both manual and automation testing, playing a crucial part in ensuring the quality and reliability of our products. Our Test Engineers work in cross-functional workstreams with developers, product leads, and designers, so you will be collaborating in a team with diverse skill sets and personalities. Our teams work together to develop insight-driven, market-leading digital products and services. You will curate a robust test automation suite to support the continuous delivery of our microservices and micro frontends. These include UI, integration, contract and smoke tests in Typescript or Java. You’ll also promote good testing practices and incorporate improvements into existing processes within the wider Autotrader engineering community. Together we share insights, learn from each other and overcome common challenges through regular showcases and feedback sessions. You might assume that our name, "Autotrader," means you must be a car enthusiast to work here. But that's not the case. We're looking for people who are passionate about their work and thrive in a collaborative environment.
What we’re looking for
- Testing experience in both manual and automation techniques
- Well versed with cross browser and cross platform testing techniques
- A good working knowledge of software development
- Proficiency in UI automation tools such as Cypress, Playwright and Jest
- Understanding of Continuous Delivery/Deployment processes and how test automation fits into this
- Experience collaborating with Developers to shape the test pyramid
- A genuine enthusiasm for working within cross-functional teams
- Agile experience and a clear understanding of how test engineering fits into the methodology
- Curiosity and critical thinking about the way we work, the features we’re building and the technologies we’re using
- Drive to influence and enhance testing and software engineering best practices
- Exposure to non-functional testing such as performance and accessibility
- Understanding of Git or similar version control systems
During our application process, you will be asked two questions to help us learn more about you and how you align with our values. These will be used as part of our selection criteria, to determine if we progress your application further.
Benefits and more
We’re offering a salary of £40,000 – £60,000, plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares. And you'll receive 28 days holiday, plus bank holidays and comprehensive private medical cover. That’s not all. We have employee pension contributions up to 7%, enhanced family leave provisions, a car salary sacrifice scheme, share-save options, and much more. We always want to give you the support you need and help prioritise your wellbeing, that’s why we provide access to 24/7 online GP and dentist, as well as specialist support for assisted fertility, gender dysphoria, menopause, period care plans and lots more.
On top of all that, our hybrid model, Connected Working, combines the best of both worlds – office and home working. You’ll have two fixed weekly office days for team collaboration and one more of your choice to suit your work-life balance. Additionally, we have our remote-first periods at set times during summer and winter. During these periods, you can work remotely anywhere in the UK and from certain locations abroad.
