About the role

At Autotrader, we love data and believe decisions are best made when data is involved. We’re looking for a BI Developer to join our Finance Systems and BI team. The team is responsible for developing insightful reporting and analysis to enable data driven business decisions.

As a BI Developer, you will be responsible for analysing and reviewing big data models and translating this into feature rich business insight capabilities, utilising the latest tools and techniques available on our data platform. The role involves managing and maintaining the Looker reporting suite, handling support requests, assisting with data analysis, and developing and maintaining our data pipelines. You’ll provide first-line support for Looker development, maintenance, and queries, while also partnering with our Finance colleagues to ensure our data is structured and surfaced in a way that allows the most accurate and impactful analyses to be undertaken.

You’ll also be part of our journey to improve our data-driven decision-making through the development of data packages, reports, and visualisation dashboards, adding these to our BI suite. Providing training and guidance to our Finance colleagues in understanding existing reporting and enabling them to self-serve analysis will also form a core part of this role. Ultimately, you will establish yourself as the subject matter authority in business intelligence across the team.

What we're looking for

  • Previous experience in enterprise-level BI data platforms with strong SQL language skills.
  • Experience in Looker or similar BI visualisation tools is essential.
  • Experience developing and maintaining data transformation pipelines using dbt or other ETL/ELT tools is highly advantageous.
  • The ability to proactively partner and communicate with internal teams to collaboratively develop insights and metrics.
  • Experience creating and optimising a suite of reports or dashboards for stakeholders to drive business, team, or product performance.
  • A real passion for data and collaboration, with the ability to carry out data analysis before translating that into a concise and insightful story to a wide variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-driven and able to use a combination of data, analysis, knowledge sharing, and business acumen to identify and lead new opportunities.

During our application process, you will be asked two questions to help us learn more about you and how you align with our values. These will be used as part of our selection criteria, to determine if we progress your application further.

Benefits

We’re offering a salary of £40,000 – £45,000 plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares.

You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve. That’s not all. You'll be enrolled in our pension scheme, where our standard contributions are 7% and employee contributions are 5%. We also have comprehensive private medical cover, enhanced family leave provisions, a car salary sacrifice scheme, share-save options, and much more.

We always want to give you the support you need and help prioritise your wellbeing, that’s why we provide access to 24/7 online GP and dentist, as well as specialist support for assisted fertility, gender dysphoria, menopause, period care plans and lots more.

On top of all that, our hybrid model, Connected Working, combines the best of both worlds – office and home working. You'll spend a minimum of 3 days a week in the office with your team, focused on collaboration and connection. Additionally, we have our remote-first periods at set times during summer and winter. During these periods, you can work remotely anywhere in the UK and from certain locations abroad.
