An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior HGV / Heavy Plant Engineer to join a leading specialist equipment provider based in Bicester. This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering position suited to a highly skilled individual with extensive experience working on heavy plant, HGVs, construction machinery, or specialist equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting workshop operations, carrying out advanced diagnostics, and providing technical expertise both in the workshop and at customer sites throughout the UK.

The Role
As a Senior HGV / Heavy Plant Engineer, you will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and commissioning a wide range of specialist equipment while supporting the wider engineering team with technical guidance and expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out advanced diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy plant and specialist equipment.
- Diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Conduct equipment inspections, testing, and commissioning prior to delivery or following repairs.
- Attend customer sites to diagnose and rectify breakdowns when required.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and workshop staff.
- Ensure all service and repair documentation is completed accurately.
- Assist in improving workshop procedures, efficiency, and service quality.
- Represent the business professionally while delivering exceptional customer service on-site.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company and industry standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Significant experience as a Senior HGV Technician, Heavy Plant Engineer, Plant Fitter, Construction Equipment Engineer, or similar.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of:
- Mechanical systems
- Hydraulic systems
- 12V and 24V electrical systems
- Electronic diagnostics
- Proven ability to work independently in both workshop and field-based environments.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience working on construction equipment, concrete machinery, heavy plant, or specialist vehicles.
- Knowledge of CANbus systems, PLC controls, and advanced electronic diagnostics.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
- Experience commissioning specialist machinery and equipment.
