About Us

Autoscan UK Limited is a leading provider of quality assurance and inspection services to the automotive industry. With years of experience and a commitment to excellence, we partner with top automotive manufacturers to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.

The Role

We are seeking a meticulous Quality Technician to play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of metallic and plastic components used in automotive assemblies. Working at the heart of our quality function, you’ll combine technical expertise with analytical thinking to verify parts against complex engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, OEM tolerance stacks, and critical-to-quality characteristics. Using advanced metrology equipment—including CMMs (Mitutoyo, Hexagon, Zeiss) and a range of precision measuring instruments—you’ll translate dimensional data into meaningful insight that supports confident production decisions.

Beyond inspection, you’ll contribute to new product launches and engineering changes by refining CMM programs and developing robust measurement routines. Your data will drive PPAP submissions, APQP reviews, capability studies, and structured problem-solving activities such as 8D investigations, helping cross-functional teams resolve dimensional concerns and strengthen process control.

Maintaining a compliant, audit-ready measurement environment aligned with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001, you’ll also oversee calibration, traceability, and documentation—ensuring our quality systems consistently meet automotive and customer-specific standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform first-off, in-process, batch, and final inspection on metallic and plastic components used in automotive assemblies.
  • Use precision measurement tools including CMM, height gauges, bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, optical systems, and surface plates.
  • Interpret engineering drawings with complex GD&T, OEM tolerance stacks, and critical-to-quality characteristics (CTQs).
  • Generate dimensional reports for: PPAP, APQP Gateway reviews, Control Plan validations and annual layouts.
  • Operate and maintain CMMs (e.g., Mitutoyo, Hexagon, Zeiss).
  • Run established CMM programs and support minor edits or troubleshooting.
  • Assist in developing new measurement routines for product launches or engineering changes (ECNs).
  • Perform verification and capability checks to confirm CMM accuracy.
  • Provide measurement data for GR&R studies, capability studies, statistical process control, Root-cause investigations (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa).
  • Support Manufacturing and Engineering during dimensional concerns, customer complaints, and deviation reviews.
  • Maintain a clean, controlled measurement room environment aligned with automotive quality standards.
  • Perform routine calibration checks and manage equipment traceability.
  • Ensure all gauges used in production meet calibration deadlines and are compliant with IATF 16949 calibration requirements.
  • Complete and maintain measurement records that meet automotive customer requirements.
  • Manage document control for dimensional reports, calibration records, and PPAP measurement evidence.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, OEM customer-specific requirements, and internal quality procedures.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of precision measurement and automotive GD&T.
  • Experience with CMM operation; programming experience desirable.
  • High proficiency in reading complex engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in data analysis including capability studies, GR&R, and SPC.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical work style.
  • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and automotive quality software (e.g., Minitab, Q-DAS, QualityLink, Measure Link).

Experience & Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or related field.
  • Previous experience in an automotive manufacturing environment (Tier 1/Tier 2 supplier or OEM).
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans preferred.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection tools and CMM equipment is essential.
