Shifts: Rolling roster, work 18 days out of every 28, with two full weekends off.

Standard Shift Duration: 9 hours and 45 minutes, including a 45-minute break.

Flexibility Required: While standard shifts are under 10 hours, end-of-shift flexibility is essential. You may be required to work up to 12 hours (including breaks) depending on operational needs.

To be eligible for this role you must live within 25 miles or 1 hour's travel from the depot.

As an HGV Recovery Driver, you will often work independently, but the moment you step out of your truck, you become a source of calm and confidence. With empathy and resilience, you’ll support members through stressful moments, using your technical expertise to recover vehicles safely and efficiently. Whether it’s transporting a vehicle to a garage or helping someone reach their destination, you’ll make a real difference in their day and their journey.

What will I be doing?

  • Delivering exceptional service by safely recovering vehicles and reassuring customers during breakdowns, helping them get back on the road quickly.
  • Working independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.
  • Solving problems on the spot, using your technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.
  • Staying solution-focused and compliant with EU Regulations & WTD, representing The AA with professionalism and a drive to always 'Push for Better.'

What do I need?

  • A full Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence is essential. If you already hold a Category CE (HGV Class 1) licence — great! If not, don’t worry — we’ll support you in gaining it.
  • A valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and a digital tachograph card.
  • Confidence using and adapting to new technology — we’ll provide the tools; you bring the curiosity.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays because breakdowns don’t stick to a schedule.
