This is the job:

As a Performance Leader within Recovery Operations, you’ll play a hybrid role, balancing leadership of a team of Patrols with hands-on operational work as a Patrol yourself. You’ll lead by example, ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of recovery services across a large and diverse geographical area. You’ll focus on delivering the right outcomes across Safety, Service, People and Cost, driving exceptional customer experiences while meeting legal, operational and commercial requirements.

What will I be doing?

  • Safety & Compliance: Lead a strong safety culture, ensuring patrol operations comply with DVSA, EU Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Directive requirements. Maintain operator licence compliance through vehicle, workshop, tool, PPE and equipment checks, and support investigations into incidents, claims and complaints to identify root causes and preventative actions.
  • Service: Drive consistently high service standards across the patrol team and through your own patrol activity. Act as a role model for performance and professionalism, and build effective relationships with third-party garages and contractors to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • People Leadership: Coach, mentor and develop patrols through regular 1:1s, accompanied visits and performance reviews. Share best practice, support ongoing professional development, and manage performance fairly in line with AA values and policies.
  • Cost & Performance: Use performance data and insight to improve productivity, efficiency and cost control. Manage contractor performance to ensure value for money, support the Recovery Operations Regional Manager in delivering operational and financial objectives, and minimise downtime through effective maintenance planning.

What do I need?

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • Strong knowledge of fleet, transport and legal compliance, including Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Directive
  • Understanding of transport management, compliance and Earned Recognition
  • Experience in Recovery Operations (desirable)
  • Ability to work in a hybrid role combining people leadership with operational patrol duties
  • Key skills: coaching and development, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and report writing.
