A specialist engineering business is seeking a hands-on Workshop Supervisor to support and develop its electrical workshop function. This is a key role focused on technical delivery, continuity planning, and practical leadership, rather than people management in a corporate sense. The position would suit an experienced electrical professional who enjoys remaining on the tools while gradually taking responsibility for job coordination, workshop organisation, and apprentice development.
Workshop Supervisor - The Role:
- Reporting into the wider engineering and operations team, the Workshop Supervisor will act as the link between the workshop and the office while remaining actively involved in day-to-day engineering work.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Hands-on electrical work including panel wiring and build
- Supporting on-site installations and commissioning, including international travel (c. 4 weeks per year)
- Occasional offshore work (very rare, but candidates must be prepared)
- Coordinating and managing selected workshop jobs from start to finish
- Acting as a liaison between the workshop floor and office teams
- Supporting and developing an electrical apprentice
- Assisting with workshop paperwork, job tracking, and general organisation
- Helping future-proof the workshop by supporting knowledge transfer and skills development
The workshop currently consists of a small, close-knit electrical & mechanical team, and the successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening and sustaining this capability long term.
Workshop Supervisor - The Person:
- The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong electrical background with hands-on workshop experience
- Experience of panel wiring and electrical build
- Willingness to travel internationally and occasionally offshore
- A practical, reliable, and collaborative working style
- Confidence to take responsibility for jobs and support others
- An interest in mentoring and developing junior engineers/apprentices
- Leadership experience is not essential – this role suits someone ready to step up naturally

Located in Tyne & Wear, this role would be commutable from Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Gateshead, Jarrow, Hebburn, Washington, Chester-le-Street, Blyth, Cramlington, Seaham North Shields, South Shields, Morpeth, Peterlee and surrounding areas.
