An established and growing industrial automation business is seeking a Controls Product Support Engineer to join its UK-based engineering team. This role sits at the heart of the organisation, working closely with customers, distributors, OEMs and in-house R&D to support and shape advanced motion-control and automation products.
The successful candidates will have strong experience of machine automation, particularly motion-centric systems (servo drives, motors, multi-axis control), and will enjoy solving complex technical problems while influencing future product development. This hire is part of a wider rebuild of the product support function offering a genuine opportunity to make a visible impact.
Controls Product Support Engineer - The Role:- Provide high-quality technical support to customers, distributors, and OEMs via phone, email, and remote tools
- Act as a technical interface between customers and internal R&D (software & hardware teams)
- Support and train internal and external application engineers
- Answer product-level and application-level technical queries
- Develop, modify, and maintain example code, reference applications, and demonstration projects
- Produce clear, professional technical documentation, training materials, and manuals
- Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation of motion-based automation systems
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electronic, or Automation
- Ideally c5 years experience in industrial machine automation or motion control environments
- Strong understanding of customer requirements and manufacturing processes
- Experience supporting automation products used in OEM or production machinery
- Confident communicator, able to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Ability to produce professional technical documentation
- UK valid driving licence
- Experience of writing controls software ideally using Structured Text/Codesys
- Ability with the following would be highly advantageous: multi-axis synchronised motion, experience of Beckhoff or similar platforms, industrial robotics, real-time industrial networks, practical electrical interfacing and system-level integration, servo and/or stepper drives & motors and knowledge of at least one general purpose programming language i.e. C, BASIC, Python
Located in Gloucestershire, this role would be commutable from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Worcester, Hereford, Stroud, Cirencester, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Monmouth, Droitwich Spa, Alcester and surrounding.
