A well-established manufacturing organisation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join its Maintenance Department, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.
The Role
- Supervise and mentor mechanical maintenance engineers and apprentices
- Allocate workload, ensure effective shift coverage, and support training and competency assessments
- Develop, implement, and manage Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules across mechanical assets
- Maintain and repair equipment including CNC machines, manual lathes, welding equipment, hydraulic systems, compressors, and overhead cranes
- Lead rapid response to mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime
- Diagnose faults and determine cost‑effective repair solutions where detailed specifications are unavailable
- Carry out mechanical fault finding, testing, repair, replacement, and adjustment of components
- Investigate root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Maintain accurate machine records and maintenance documentation
- Support CapEx and continuous improvement projects, including equipment installation, relocation, and upgrades
The Person
- Completed a recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship
- Strong mechanical maintenance background within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Ideally 100% mechanical, though candidates with a 70/30 mechanical‑to‑electrical bias will also be considered
- Experience with CNC and manual machine tools and fabrication equipment is desirable
- Proven fault‑finding and problem‑solving ability
- Confident supervising and supporting junior engineers and apprentices
- Flexible and proactive approach
This is a Days role. Monday - Thursday 7.30 - 4. Friday 7.30 - 12. Overtime is readily available: Paid at 1.35 for the first 7 hours, 1.65 for the following hours and x2 on a Sunday. Located in West Yorkshire, this role would be commutable from Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds and surrounding areas.
