At AUAR, we're on a mission to make sustainable housing universally accessible. Our small but ambitious team has built a fully integrated tech stack spanning the value chain, from cloud-based design to pop-up robotic Micro Factories. We’ve made great progress in building and refining our technology to ensure that our customers (Home-builders) can build cost-effectively with timber. We’re passionate about making a positive impact on both people and the planet, and we’re looking for individuals who share our values and drive to help us achieve the next stage of our mission.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Robotics Developer to join our multidisciplinary Automation team at AUAR. You’ll be helping us build and deploy the AUAR Micro Factory - our intelligent, rapidly deployable "factory-in-a-box" that enables the construction of high-performance, low-carbon homes. In this role, you’ll take ownership of robot programming and automation system development using ABB industrial robots and other automation hardware. This work will span the evolution of our systems from internal prototypes to robust, field-tested units. You’ll collaborate deeply with a cross-functional team that includes mechanical, software, electrical, and deployment engineers.

  • Develop, test, and deploy advanced robot applications using ABB RAPID, SDK, and RobotStudio, as well as other relevant languages and frameworks.
  • Own robot programming and simulation workflows for current and future versions of the Micro-Factory cell.
  • Lead development of toolpath logic, tool-change systems, and integration with sensors and safety devices.
  • Define and document robot test plans, calibration routines, and error recovery strategies.
  • Perform physical testing and debugging with our robots and automation hardware.
  • Build workflows specifically targeted at quick deployment and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical/controls and software engineers to ensure robot functions are fully integrated with the Micro-Factory’s hardware architecture and safety systems.
  • Contribute to the development of end-of-arm tooling and other cell hardware.
  • Mentor junior developers and help standardize best practices as our team and number of Micro-Factory deployments grows.
  • Support onsite installs and field commissioning alongside our deployment team.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop space.
  • Promote healthy and safe working conditions in our facilities and in the equipment we ship to customers.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.

You have 5-8+ years of experience in industrial robotics, including deep expertise in ABB RAPID, SDK and RobotStudio (essential). You have extensive programming experience using a variety of languages and frameworks (e.g. .NET, C++ and Python). You have extensive experience of robot cell setup, calibration, and safe operation in production environments. You have experience building digital twins and systems for teleoperation and remote support. You have experience performing remote code deployments and software updates in industrial systems. You have a strong understanding of version control systems (Github) and are proficient in professional engineering best practices (code reviews, coding standards, CI/CD, testing). You have demonstrable experience collaborating with hardware engineering teams to solve complex system integration challenges. You have strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive, hands-on approach to field commissioning and support. You have excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills, capable of bridging between software, mechanical, and electrical teams. You’re happy to do some travel as part of the role.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with vision-guided robotics, spatial sensing and other computer vision systems.
  • Experience with other industrial robot platforms and automation equipment.
  • Previous work in a high-growth start-up or productization of early-stage hardware.
  • Familiarity with ROS, OPC-UA, or other industrial communication middleware.
  • Experience developing solutions for construction automation or applications involving both machining and assembly.

What We Offer

  • Flexible working (where possible) with the team based in Central London.
  • This role requires hands-on and highly collaborative working, so we expect this role to require 3-5 days per week in the office/workshop.
  • Base salary of £50,000-£65,000 depending on experience.
  • Share options so we all benefit from AUAR’s success.
  • A values-lead working culture which informs all aspects of how we work.
  • Generous leave with 28 days bookable days each year (+bank holidays +seasonal office closure).
  • Opportunity to be an early employee and help us shape the business as we grow.

We’re building a team as diverse as the communities we serve. If you see a part of this role that excites you - even if you don’t meet 100% of the criteria - we encourage you to apply. Let’s make housing better, together. We are committed to creating an equitable, inclusive and diverse workplace.
