Autograph Recruitment are delighted to be working with an established and growing business within the waste and recycling sector. We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to take responsibility for a busy transport operation based in Cardiff.
This is a hands-on management role, overseeing the fleet, drivers and daily transport activities while ensuring the operation remains safe, compliant and cost-effective. The successful candidate will be a confident leader with strong commercial awareness and excellent knowledge of UK transport legislation.
Key responsibilities of Transport Manager:
- Managing the day-to-day transport operation, including the fleet, drivers and transport team
- Working closely with the Transport Planner to improve routes, efficiency and service levels
- Ensuring vehicle availability through effective maintenance and repair scheduling
- Monitoring fuel usage, vehicle performance, costs and operational KPIs
- Maintaining full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations
- Keeping accurate transport, inspection and compliance records
- Reviewing transport costs and identifying opportunities for operational improvements
- Promoting a strong health, safety and environmental culture
- Leading, supporting and developing drivers and transport employees
The ideal candidate:
- A Transport Manager CPC qualification is essential
- Previous transport management experience, ideally within waste, recycling or logistics
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance
- Experience managing a fleet and team of drivers
- Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
- A practical, hands-on approach with a positive attitude
