We’re looking for a Principal Experience Designer to join our Visualization Solutions group within Autodesk’s AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) platform org. This team is responsible for delivering intuitive, powerful experiences that help professionals across industries visualize and collaborate effectively on complex projects.
As Principal Experience Designer, you will work on visualisation capabilities and critical in-product workflows that enable users to review models, manage design workflows and project processes, and make informed decisions. These experiences span web and mobile platforms, requiring a balance of detailed interaction design and holistic experience thinking.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, can navigate ambiguity and a broad problem space to drive results, comfortable working on complex workflows, and can balance detailed interaction design work with an ability to step back and think holistically. Experience with 3D authoring tools is a plus, but not mandatory.
This person will report to a UX Manager in the Visualization Solutions org. The location of this role is UK and can be based predominantly remotely. Any close proximity to the engineering teams in Sheffield is a plus.
Responsibilities- Drive UX strategy and execution for the Visualization space, ensuring an intuitive and delightful experience.
- Influence product strategy and share design rationale through storytelling, presentations, and iterative artefacts, inspiring alignment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, product managers, and engineers within your product area and across the AEC group.
- Champion evidence-based design by partnering with UX Research and using analytics to uncover insights that shape design strategy and the product roadmap.
- Empower your team to prioritize features that deliver maximum value to users, balancing business and user goals.
- Become a subject matter expert in the visualization domain and lead design strategy, shaping the roadmap with a strong design perspective.
- Mentor and coach early to mid-career designers, fostering growth and design excellence.
- Guide and participate in design critiques, maintaining high standards and consistency in design solutions.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies, including AI-driven design tools and workflows, to innovate and future-proof the user experience.
- 5-7 years of UX design experience working as a UX designer.
- Previous experience working on SaaS products.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
- Experience with industry standard tools like Figma.
- Experience designing for complex creative applications, 3D tools, gaming, or visualisation platforms.
- Deep understanding of AEC workflows and Autodesk tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Forma.
- Hands-on experience with 3D geometry workflows and visualisation challenges.
- Exposure to AR/VR or immersive design techniques.
- Demonstrated ability in influencing product and design strategy.
- Familiarity with AI-powered design tools or workflows and an interest in leveraging emerging technologies.
