Software Engineer – Birmingham (Hybrid)
Join Autodesk's Fusion organization as a Software Engineer on a Birmingham-based scrum team.
In this role you will help build Autodesk Fusion, a CAD/CAM desktop application, delivering production‑quality features, using AI‑assisted development as part of everyday engineering work, and solving real customer problems.
Responsibilities
- AI‑assisted development
- Use AI tools (e. g., Cursor, Git Hub Copilot, Claude) for planning, implementation, refactoring, debugging, test generation, and documentation; validate output for correctness, security, performance and maintainability.
Apply AI in troubleshooting and code review where appropriate, share workflows with teammates, and help raise team standards for responsible use.
- Object‑oriented software engineering
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable features with clear abstractions, encapsulation, inheritance, and sound design patterns in C++.
Write, test, review, and maintain high‑quality code across the full development lifecycle.
Own features or components from design through deployment and support.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects and performance bottlenecks, and maintain technical documentation.
- CAD domain
- Develop and optimise production‑grade capabilities across CAD (parametric modelling, geometry, design workflows).
Apply computational geometry and geometric modelling principles to robust, performance‑sensitive desktop software.
Collaborate with Product Management, Experience Design, and Quality Assurance to deliver customer‑facing Fusion capabilities.
- Collaboration & delivery
- Work effectively within distributed global teams; participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, estimation, stand‑ups, retrospectives).
Expand technical breadth across adjacent domains while deepening expertise in core areas.
Contribute to a culture of collaboration, code quality, and continuous learning.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2 to 4 years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency using AI‑assisted development tools as part of daily work, with disciplined review and validation of generated code.
- Strong object‑oriented programming in C++ with modern C++ practices and the C++ Standard Library (STL).
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented design, and design patterns.
- Strong programming, debugging, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Working knowledge of CAD/CAM concepts, computational geometry, or geometric modelling, or equivalent experience building geometry‑heavy or mathematically intensive software.
- Experience with source control and project management tools such as Git and Jira.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing CAD and/or CAM desktop applications (Fusion or similar products).
- Hands‑on experience with computational geometry, geometric modelling, or computer graphics.
- Cross‑platform application development (Windows, mac OS, Linux).
- Experience designing and developing APIs and SDKs.
- Familiarity with Qt, CMake, and Python.
