The Company
Autocraft Machining Solutions is part of the Autocraft Solutions Group. Our 7,000sqm site in Wellingborough is home to the group’s medium to high volume head and block machining capability, and boasts an impressive state-of-the-art assembly and test facility producing high-performance engines for a prestigious UK car manufacturer.
Purpose of Job
The purpose of the role is to ensure that customer satisfaction is maintained through product conformance to agreed engineering standards and processes. The responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer is to engineer and administer the processes and equipment required for manufacturing activities. Engineers will work within a cross-functional team responsible for the total life cycle of manufacturing projects. Supporting New Product Introduction and driving continuous improvement activities with the production cells are also part of the role.
Duties
- Development of engine build & test processes
- Resolution of production process issues
- Diagnose downtime concerns and developing solutions to address them
- Understand & develop Aria & operator guided systems
- Assessment of engine running data and identifying faults/issues. You will approve or reject engines readiness for shipping.
- Create rework proposals based on information from the data output from test including containment actions and concessions.
- Development of engine test processes.
- Understand and eliminate sources of waste
- Manage and prioritise workload for assigned engineers
- Interface with customers as required
- Develop specification documents for new equipment, tools or services
- Development of less experienced engineers in both technical and non-technical skills to become outstanding Build Engineers
- Oversee, in conjunction with the relevant project managers, the execution of programs for schedule and budget while achieving technical objectives.
- Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional areas of engine build operations
- Ensure a responsible approach to health, safety and environmental risks in relation to own and team function and to control the risks or report them to management as appropriate
- Adhere to company policies, procedures and working practices at all times.
- To evaluate existing manufacturing systems with a view to optimisation, cost reduction and general continuous improvement using lean principles. Then where appropriate within a cross-functional team, implement the relevant changes
- To create, maintain and develop Process Documentation i.e. Process Sheets, FMEA, Process Flow and APQP
- To liaise with the Quality and Production teams to ensure best practices are implemented.
- Support supplier and internal assessments against the requirements of industry standards as required, providing information and explanation as appropriate.
- Carry out internal process audits in to ensure that process instructions are being followed and are correct. Take and drive any remedial actions as necessary.
- To develop repair and rework schemes for products including containment actions and concessions.
- To lead, co-ordinated or participate in problem solving activities using approved tools and techniques.
- To work in a IATF16949 environment, upholding the ethics of the company’s quality standards.
- To travel both in the UK & abroad for supplier/customer visits as required.
- Ensure a responsible approach to health, safety and environmental risks in relation to own and team function and to control the risks or report them to management as appropriate
- To perform any other duties reasonably required to achieve departmental and/or Company objectives as deemed appropriate by the Manager / Director responsible.
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in the automotive or related industry post apprenticeship (Desired)
- Innovative and team oriented, strong problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate ability to effectively collaborate with co-workers and customer
- Prior experience in leading and providing technical leadership
- Must possess the ability to resolve management and technical problems
- Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required
Qualifications
- A HND or Degree in Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent is preferred
- Industry recognised apprenticeship
- SixSigma Green Belt
Required Skills
- IT literacy, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Interpretation of geometric tolerancing (GD&T) and 2D drawings
- Good communication skills
- Problem Solving using recognised tools and techniques
- Understanding and experience of APQP, FMEA’s, PPAP, SPC
- Hours: Alternating Shifts – Monday to Friday 5.45 am to 14.15 pm and 13.45 pm to 22.15 pm
